Morgan Daimler – The Raven Goddess

If you’re afraid of learning some BS about this fascinating goddess, you don’t need to be. Even Lora O’Brien recommends Daimler’s books. The Raven goddess is focused on the Morrigan herself (the first book was more about her and her sisters). The author uses primary sources, research and their own experiences to help you reach a deeper understanding.

The book covers description of the Morrigan and colours associated with her. It explains misinformation like is she really a goddess, where does her associaton with falcons and fertility come from, what is her relationship with Cu Chulainn and what happened between her and the Dagda on Samhain.

Daimler writes about the confusing connection (or lack thereof) between the Morrigan and Morgen la Fey, talks about the Morrigan’s role in The Cath Maige Tuired and retells parts of the Ulster Cycle (The Táin Bó Regamna and The Táin Bó Cúailnge) where the goddess appears.

The author explains what sovereignty meant in the past, what it can mean now, how gods change and evolve with us and why the Morrigan isn’t a Mother or a Sex goddess (not according to myths).

You learn about ways to feel more connected to the Morrigan through shrines, offerings, prayer, music and visiting places that are associated with her. The book includes tips for further resources, dissertations and papers, blogs, websites and artwork.
